April 25, 2015
The Eve of Jackie is a performance tribute dedicated to telling the story of Jackie Wilson through music and intimate conversation with the audience.
Jackie Wilson, also known as "Mr. Excitement", was an American singer and performer that played a very important and significant role in taking rhythm and blues and forming it into soul. By the age of 49, he was one of the most influential artists of his time and was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. His last performance (in 1975) consisted of collapsing on stage from having a heart attack while singing "Lonely Teardrops", which resulted in him slipping into a coma for eight years and passing away in 1984.
The person behind this soulful tribute is none other than Chester Gregory, an American actor, singer and songwriter from Gary, Indiana who has been in many productions from Hairspray, Tarzan, Cry-Baby, Dreamgirls, Sister Act, andTwo Trains Running.
